Philyouth Concert :)

Classiques! at Esplanade will see Resident Conductor Adrian Chiang leading the Philharmonic Youth Winds through a programme of wind literature encompassing vigour, energy and passion.

Philharmonic Youth Winds will be performing Samuel L. Hazo’s Ride, an “exhilaratingly fun piece for any band to play”, as well as David Gillingham’s critically acclaimed Concerto for Horn and Symphonic Band featuring horn player Lewis Poh from The Philharmonic Winds and Singapore Armed Forces Central Band.

Singapore Symphony Orchestra cellist Chan Wei Shing takes to the stage in Johan de Meij’s Casanova for Cello and Wind Orchestra, for which the Dutch composer received a First Prize at the International Composition Competition of Corciano, Italy in 1999.

Also on the lineup is Equus, an excellent demonstration of “dynamic minimalism” and a “virtuosic show piece for winds”, by renowned composer Eric Whitacre, guest conducted by Tay Kai Tze of The Philharmonic Winds.

In commemoration of Gustav Mahler’s 150th birth anniversary, the concert will end with the Finale from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D major, arranged for wind orchestra by Hardy Mertens.

Practice makes perfect! :)

Please practice hard and get all your fingerings right. As you can see, some of the notes have more than 1 fingerings, so please learn to use the other alternate fingerings as well. It helps you to play running passages easily. For the tuning note C (3rd space; counting from bottom), don't just use right pinky, can use left pinky as well. Those who don't understand, please ask kengteng or zhixin to explain. Have fun with your clarinets! :)

greetings to all

Hi fellow Clarinettists,

I'm Kelvin here (if you don't know who I am).

I hope you guys will really practice hard for next year's SYF. There's a saying that goes, the band can only be good if only the worst player can play as well as the best player. So, PLEASE practice hard on your basics and all your pieces.

Please also note that the following stuffs are suppose to be in your cases:
Clarinet (like duh?! hahhaas)
Mouthpiece with Ligature and Mouthpiece Cap
Silver Cloth
Swab
Reeds
Cork Grease
These are the standard items to be in your cases.

Please help to maintain your instruments ah.. All the Clarinets in CBSS is actually very good ones. Please take good care of them. =)

Words from the heart

Kengteng here! ^^ hehe, suddenly have an urge to revive this blog. so... Metier has ended on July3, definitely a date, a day worth remembering. A year has passed so fast and in a blink of an eye, the sec fours are going to step down already!

firstly, i would like to apologise to all my juniors. i don't think i have been a very good SL. i have a hot temper(a very hot one) and i feel that i didn't really care much for the section. *feeling guilty now* we don't have much bondings, section outings unlike other sections. it must be a bore to be in clarinet section right? nevertheless, it has been a fruitful one year! despite all those scoldings, naggings, unhappiness, a year has passed. and its time for me to mug for my olevels! Actually, i wrote a letter for all of you. But i guess i will only give them during Band Investiture :)

Izzah: I want to apologise for throwing my temper at you sometimes. Hehe, how does it feel like to be a section leader? Just want to tell you, please don't give up on the juniors no matter how difficult it is. i don't want you to follow my footsteps. Persevere and hang on regardless of how much you feel like giving up. Cause in the end, it'll all be worth it. i shall stop here. there's so much i want to say, its all in the letter. HAHA

Grace: HI SECRETARY! Work tgtr with Izzah and help her out alright :) she can't survive on her own! hahas, same goes to you, don't give up on the juniors! Scold them when they do something wrong, don't let them climb over your head! Cause you look really innocent. LOL. And stop laughing at Yang Lin during full band!

Rina: Hi baby, hehe :) You're much more like a little sister to me than a junior. don't miss me too much, i'll be in the band room for study sessions with tingwei. Anytime you have problems, be it regarding band or clarinet or personal life, i'll be there! Work with Izzah and Grace and.. STOP USING HP DURING FULL BAND!

JingXuan: Learn to speak up more, you're too quiet! Don't be so anti-social, try to talk more to the others. ^^ YOU'RE SOOOOO CUTE :) Yup, try to teach the sec ones if they need help. Practice more okay little girl!

Sec Ones: HEY SMALL KIDS! Don't give up on clarinet no matter how difficult it is. I've been through this before. If you don't understand anything, please ask your BEAUTIFUL seniors ^^ don't keep quiet, cause in the end, you'll be the one losing out. Please respect your seniors, after all, they're older than you. ^^ That's all, the rest is in the letter.

GOOD LUCK AND WORK HARD FOR SYF2011 :)
I'LL BE SUPPORTING YOU DEEP DEEP DOWN IN MY HEART.

Kengteng
